Studenti 2. a 3. ročníku měli v pondělí 13.11.2023 již tradičně příležitost zažít v aule školy představení v anglickém jazyce History of England.

Diváci se stali spontánně součástí příběhu dějin např. v bitvě u Hastingsu, projevili své hudební i herecké nadání, či znalosti historie a jazyků.

History of England I

I can say I enjoyed this theatre. The two actors Nikki and Patrick were really funny. It was not a conventional play but rather an interactive one where the audience were dragged in by answering question and gaining points. I personally believe that different approach to learning history is a smarter way how to remember it and actually retain it for much longer time.

The story portrays English history from its beginning, the age of Celts, to the coronation of queen Elizabeth the first. Various historical events are highlighted throughout the play, including the year 1066, that is the battle of Hastings, which is brought up as the most important one in the history of England.

The play is written extraordinarily well. It includes lots of interactive activities and jokes that were at times rather edgy, for example making fun of French people. This makes it more exciting for the adolescent audience. The performance of the actors was outstanding as well. I have seen the play interpreted by two actors, Patrick and Niki, and I really liked the way they engaged with the crowd.

History of England II

The discussion centred on England's history, spanning from the 14th century to the present, with a particular focus on figures like Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill etc. The duo explored various political challenges and how the English people addressed them over the centuries, including the notable event of the populace executing their king due to dissatisfaction with his rule.

In my opinion the show was a great way of educating students. The actors were hilarious, their contact with the audience was really amusing. I also liked the fact that sometimes they forgot their line or got some year wrong, they corrected themselves and went on. Even four days after the play I remember most of what they told us which is more than after many lessons from the same day. The language also wasn’t too complicated and therefore more understandable for everyone.

Marie Hrabalová

Overall, the enactment was very entertaining and educational. The characters were shown to us in an exaggerated way, which is what I assume made the whole experience so fun and memorable. Even though the costume and background design were oversimplified, it didn't cause any unclearness in who was who. Something I greatly admired was how they made the audience engage as well.
